Classic Bathroom Refit

Classic Bathroom Refit

We completely refitted this bathroom in a classic style: a walk-in shower lined in pure marble herringbone, a panelled bath with a marble top, a double vanity, brassware throughout and a parquet-effect tiled floor. We handled every part of it, from the stud walls to the last brass hook.

Classic Bathroom Refit with Marble Herringbone and Brass

This bathroom had great bones: high ceilings, proper coving and a big bay window pulling in loads of natural light. The brief was to give it a bathroom to match, something classic and elegant that feels like it’s always belonged in the house, while being properly built underneath. We took it back and started again.

The walk-in shower

The shower was the big feature of this job. We built new stud walls to form a generous walk-in enclosure and fitted a long, low-profile shower tray so you can walk straight in. Inside, every wall is tiled in pure marble herringbone mosaic. Those tiles are small, and laying herringbone in marble takes patience. Every piece has to line up perfectly or the pattern falls apart, and this one runs dead straight from floor to ceiling.

To finish it off, we capped the tops of the stud walls in marble and ran it down the edges, so the walls look solid and built in rather than boxed out. A brass rainfall shower head and a traditional brass thermostatic valve with white ceramic levers complete the look.

The bath

We boxed in the bath with a white Shaker-style panel and topped it with a marble deck that wraps around the whole bath. The upstand at the back has a shaped edge that gives it a real period feel. Wall-mounted brass taps sit above, matching the shower and the basins.

Double vanity

On the opposite wall sits a painted double vanity with a mix of drawers and cupboards, all finished with brass knobs. It’s topped with marble and an upstand to match the bath, with two undermount basins and traditional brass taps with white ceramic levers. Two large white-framed mirrors hang above, one for each basin, so nobody’s fighting for space in the morning.

Brass details

The brass carries right through the room: taps, shower, towel rail and robe hooks all match. The brass ladder towel rail and hooks sit on the outside of the shower wall, right where you need them when you step out. A traditional chrome column radiator with a built-in towel rail sits by the vanity for that classic touch.

Flooring

The floor is laid in large-format parquet-effect tiles in a Versailles-style pattern. It gives you the look of a grand timber floor with all the practicality of tile, and it sits perfectly against the white skirting and the deep green walls.

Walls, ceiling and lighting

We finished the walls in a deep green, which makes the white marble, white joinery and brass really stand out. The coving and ceiling are crisp white, and downlights across the ceiling keep the room bright without taking anything away from the period feel.

The result

It’s a timeless bathroom that looks like it could have been there for a hundred years but works like a brand new one. Every tile, panel, tap and finish was fitted by us: one team, start to finish.
