We ripped out an old fireplace and built a full-width bespoke media wall in its place, designed and made by us. It has a recessed TV at the centre, lighting under every shelf, and Shaker-style cupboards along the bottom finished with skirting. It’s made to measure for a big room with tall ceilings.
Bespoke Media Wall

Bespoke Media Wall with Lit Shelving
This was a seriously big room, with tall ceilings and a wide main wall, but the old fireplace sat in the middle and didn’t make the most of the space. The owners wanted a feature that filled the wall properly, gave them a home for the TV and loads of storage, and looked like it had always been part of the house. So we took the fireplace out and built something from scratch.
Out with the fireplace
First job was ripping out the old fireplace and making good the wall behind it. That gave us a clean, flat run across the full width of the room to build into, and a blank canvas to design around.
Designed and built for the room
Nothing here is off the shelf. Every part of the media wall was designed, made and fitted by us to suit this exact room. With ceilings that high, it needed to have real presence, so we took it almost all the way up and finished the top with a proper cornice. Pilasters break the wall into sections, which gives it that classic, built-in library feel rather than looking like a big box screwed to the wall.
The TV at the centre
The TV sits right in the middle, set back into its own recessed panel so it sits neatly within the joinery rather than hanging off it. LED lighting runs around the TV recess, which frames the screen and gives a soft glow behind it when you’re watching in the evening. There’s room on the shelf below for a soundbar, and above the TV sits a lit display shelf to balance the whole thing out.
Lighting on every shelf
Either side of the TV are tall runs of open shelving, and every single shelf has its own LED strip. With the main lights off, the whole wall glows, and it turns the shelves into a proper display for books, photos and anything else the owners want to show off. It’s the detail that takes it from nice storage to the centrepiece of the room.
Cupboards and skirting
Along the bottom we built a full run of Shaker-style cupboards, giving loads of closed storage for all the bits you don’t want on show, plus somewhere to tuck away the TV kit. We finished the base with skirting board to match the rest of the room, so the whole thing sits on the floor like it’s part of the house rather than furniture pushed against the wall.
The result
Where there was once a tired fireplace, there’s now a full-width feature wall that gives the room a real focal point. It’s practical, it’s packed with storage and at night it’s a showpiece. Every panel, shelf, light and cupboard was made and fitted by us: one team, start to finish.
If you’ve got a wall that isn’t working for you, get in touch. We’d love to come and have a look.
